Brookhaven Psychotherapy

12 Week OCD Program

“Intrusive thoughts may knock…but you decide whether you open the door”

  • Have previous attempts to improve your OCD been unsuccessful?

  • Are you tired of your OCD controlling and dictating your day-to-day?

  • Are you ready to see real results?

One of the trickiest parts of living with OCD is the fact that it thrives in secrecy. It can be really hard to decide that you have had enough with the juggling of your work, social and home life all while dealing with nagging obsessions and compulsions that get in the way. Living with OCD is hard, that’s why we’ve worked diligently at making the therapy process easy.

In addition to the option of medication, OCD is best treated with Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT) with Exposure and Response Prevention (E/RP). Modelled off of some of the best OCD hospital programs in Canada, Brookhaven Psychotherapy has expertly crafted a 12 week program using the key elements of this therapy so that you can achieve a reduction in OCD symptoms (and fast!).

What can I expect in the 12 week program?

*The 12 week program is for individuals (this is not a group program).

First session: Your first session will be an intake appointment, where your therapist will get to know you and your OCD history. We ask lots of questions about your general mental health and collect important details about the OCD’s onset and impact on your daily life. By the end of the session, we will have a good sense of what important changes should be made to see real results.

Session 2: Your therapist will complete a standardized assessment (CY-BOCS or Y-BOCS) (pre-test) which helps us go over in great detail all the symptoms of your OCD and understand the severity (such as the time spent on managing symptoms and the impact on daily life). This is super helpful for treatment planning and also used to compare your score at the end of the program.

Sessions 3-4: Psychoeducation! Your therapist will focus on helping you understand the cycle of OCD and how CBT and E/RP works to interrupt the chain of events. If you want to, we can also educate your family members on OCD and how they can help at home. We will look at the unique thoughts and behaviours that are embedded in your OCD tendencies, and externalize the “OCD voice” from your own.

Session 4: We start the process of CBT with attacking the obsessions for what they are. We use proven cognitive techniques to help you think more realistically about your obsessions, and how to “talk back” to your OCD rather than try to get rid of the obsessions through action.

Sessions 5-10: This is where the magic happens! Your therapist will collaborate with you to make important and precise exposure hierarchies and chip away at them both in the office and home. You will also be actively practicing and engaging in response prevention techniques, giving an even bigger reduction in symptoms. You will be supported every step along the way! Homework is provided between sessions, and your support system will be engaged to help!

Sessions 10-12: Lastly, we set you up to continue the important work on your own. We provide materials, tracking sheets, the wisdom and confidence to continue to break free of OCD even beyond the therapy room. Some clients decide to see their clinician for maintenance (follow-up) appointments, and this can be decided at the end of the program. We also administer the standardized assessment for OCD so we can see (and celebrate) the gains you have made.

What is the cost?

We bill each session separately and it is often covered by extended health benefits.

The total cost of the 12 week program is $2160 (no HST), billed at $180 per session. Clients can opt out at any time.

Who is the program for?

The program is for any kid, teen or adult who is ready to tackle their OCD! If your clinician finds that symptoms are too severe for the program upon assessment, an alternative treatment plan may be proposed.

Note: OCD is a complicated diagnosis that differs from person to person, and therefore we cannot guarantee any specific results, as everyone has their own progress in treatment.
