Emma Rasmussen
She /Her Registered Social Worker, MSW Psychotherapist
As a therapist, I’m passionate about supporting individuals from all walks of life. I believe in meeting you exactly where you are—emotionally, mentally, and personally. Together, we’ll identify what matters most to you and create meaningful, realistic goals that align with your values and needs. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and rooted in the belief that everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and empowered on their journey towards healing and growth.
Emma is a Registered Social Worker with over 9 years of experience working with adults, children, and families. She holds a Master of Social Work degree with a specialization in working with individuals impacted by trauma, particularly first responders. Emma’s approach is grounded in compassion, cultural awareness, and practical support to help individuals and families heal, build resilience, and move forward. She has extensive experience working with anxiety, depression, stress management, family dynamics, self-esteem, life transitions, workplace stress, burnout, parenting support, substance use and recovery, anger management, and grief/bereavement. She is also trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Stress Management, and Resiliency, as well as Risk Assessment and Child and Youth Trauma. Emma is a proud member of the Victim Services Team in Brantford, Ontario, where she helps victims impacted by crime, tragic circumstances, or disasters. Her ideal client is someone who is dealing with trauma, burnout, struggling with their emotional regulation, open to therapy, but may feel emotionally guarded, over-responsible, or disconnected from their own needs.
Emma focuses on creating a safe, affirming space where clients don’t have to “have it all together”, where she can help them to normalize their emotional responses and guide them at their own pace. Emma helps clients to understand that trauma lives in the body and mind, using grounding, education, and practical strategies to reduce shame, hypervigilance, and emotional overwhelm.
Emma has worked in various social work roles, including child welfare and first responder-specific therapy. She has worked with individuals experiencing intimate partner violence, substance abuse, poverty, mental health, childhood trauma, adult/child conflict, post-separation conflict, grief and loss, life transitions, and work-related issues. She has worked with individuals in all walks of life in various social work settings.
“I believe therapy is not about ‘fixing’ people- it’s about creating space to be fully seen, heard, and understood without judgment. I see the therapeutic process as a collaborative journey where insight, safety, and growth unfold over time. I trust in the resiliency people carry, even when they feel disconnected from it, and I believe meaningful change begins with compassion, curiosity, and the courage to show up as you are.”
