Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (13 to 17)

This 10 week group addresses anxiety and/or low mood through Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). Children and teens learn about the role of emotions, thoughts and behaviours and the cycle of avoidance. They learn to identify errors in their thinking patterns and challenge their thoughts through fact checking or ‘detective thinking’. Emphasis is placed on slowly facing their fears while using coping strategies and relaxation techniques, ultimately breaking unhelpful behavior patterns. The program is modeled after hospital and community-based CBT services that are evidence-based, best practices.
