Brookhaven Psychotherapy
Teen DBT Skills Group
“Where emotional growth meets practical change.”
Is your teen struggling to manage big emotions, impulsive reactions, or intense stress?
Do they often feel overwhelmed, shut down, or frustrated when life feels “too much”?
This 16-week Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) group teaches practical skills for:
Emotion Regulation
Mindfulness
Distress Tolerance
Interpersonal Effectiveness
— all in a supportive, understanding environment. Teens learn how to calm their minds, manage strong emotions, handle conflict, and improve relationships with peers, family, and themselves.
What is DBT?
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a proven, evidence-based approach that helps teens:
Manage intense emotions and reduce emotional outbursts
Improve focus and mindfulness skills
Build resilience to stress
Strengthen communication and relationship skills
Learn how to cope with distress in healthy, effective ways
What can you expect?
Our next DBT Skills Group for Teens will run Wednesday evenings from January 7 – April 22, 2026 (16 weeks).
Each 90-minute session includes:
Mindfulness practice to help teens stay grounded
Interactive discussions about real-life challenges
Skills training drawn from DBT’s four core modules:
Mindfulness – learning to stay present and centered
Distress Tolerance – handling tough situations without making them worse
Emotion Regulation – understanding and managing feelings effectively
Interpersonal Effectiveness – improving communication and relationships
Who is the program for?
DBT is especially effective for teens who struggle with:
Mood swings, anxiety, or depression
Impulsivity, anger, or emotional sensitivity
Self-criticism, perfectionism, or low self-esteem
Difficulty navigating friendships, school pressure, or family conflict
We strongly recommend that the teenager also be working with an individual therapist at the same time.
Who is this program not for?
Teens who are in active crisis, teens who need a higher level of care such as hospitalization, teens who have active eating disorders that are not managed by a care team
How can I Enroll?
Teenagers can be referred by their doctor, their therapist, school personnel, or self-referral. A doctor’s note is not necessary. Reach out to our admin team for more information: info@brookhavenpsychotherapy.com or 289 635 3511
Fee: $75 per 90-minute session
Because the DBT program builds skills progressively, we ask that participants commit to attending all 16 weeks for continuity and effectiveness. (Sessions are invoiced weekly to comply with psychotherapy regulations.)
